The Competence Centre Climate and Health at the Austrian National Public Health Institute brings together interdisciplinary expertise from science, policy and practice at the interfaces of climate change mitigation, climate change adaptation, health promotion and health care. Its aim is to develop sustainable strategies for the health system as well as scientific knowledge and data bases to develop health policy frameworks.
The thematic focal points of the Competence Centre are:
- Climate-neutral health care: Development of strategies and measures for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the healthcare sector
- Addressing direct and indirect consequences of climate change on both the health of the population and the health sector: strengthening climate resilience and climate adaptation potential of the health sector and population
- Exploiting the synergies between health promotion and climate protection: promoting climate competence in the context of health.
Essential for the work of the Competence Centre Climate and Health are the interdisciplinary approach, national and international networking and diverse cooperations.
