National Heat Protection Plan

The summer of 2023 was globally the hottest by far since records began in 1940. A study from 2023 also shows that around 61,000 people in Europe died last year due to the effects of heat. In Austria, initial calculations show that the incidence of hospital admissions due to heat in summers that are above average warm is almost a third higher than in other summers.

In this project, the national heat protection plan is being updated and modified based on international good practice. The plan includes different modules, allowing for the possibility of modular updates in subsequent years, as well as the implementation of accompanying measures to strengthen heat resilience in the population.
